Elder and Schisandra Cough Syrup

This herbal cough syrup acts as an expectorant as well as soothing throats made raw from coughing. The valerian component is very calming to the lungs and helps with relaxation.

Cautions: Caution: Raw honey and syrups made from them are not to be given to infants less than 1 year old. In rare cases raw honey can cause infant botulism. Use glycerin instead.
Ingredients:
Cinnamon * Elder * Schisandra * Valerian *
Additions: Lemon, Brandy
Recipe Instructions: Syrup :
  1. Bring herbs and berries to a boil and simmer for 20 minutes.
  2. Strain and measure the reserved liquid.
  3. Mix with honey using the ratio of 1 part liquid to 2 parts honey. Return to the pot and heat gently until honey and herbal liquid are mixed. DO NOT BOIL as this will disturb the beneficial enzymes in the honey.
  4. Add the brandy (optional).
  5. Give in single tablespoon doses. This syrup is a great addition to cold teas.
