As the name implies, wormwood is a powerful worming agent that has been used for hundreds of years to expel tapeworms, threadworms, and especially roundworms from dogs, cats, humans and other animals. Yet it is not recommended as the herb of first choice by many holistic veterinarians. Although wormwood makes like miserable for parasites, it is not kind to the host.
To use wormwood, up to 1/2 teaspoon of the dried herb or 1/2 ml of tincture/per 30 pounds of body weigh can be given to dogs at mealtime. Cats can receive up to 1/2 teaspoon daily. Do not exceed three consecutive days of use. The extremely bitter flavor of this herb makes it a hard one to get animals to accept, and may be placed inside a gel capsule hidden in a piece of cheese or other special treat. |
